Catch a shadow in your hands
Then you'll understand what your luck was
And if we only knew might-have-been
Would it still be better?

The harder you try
The harder you fall
Staying alive is just letting go
So reach for the sky
With no fear at all
Trusting your life is starting over

Who can know and who can say
What is here to stay for the future?
And if there was no chance to take
Would it make anybody happy?

The harder you try
The harder you fall
Staying alive is just letting go
So reach for the sky
With no fear at all
Trusting your life is starting over

Look and see what is surely purely crazy fantasy
Why believe in the rules you only break?

The harder you try
The harder you fall
Staying alive is just letting go
So reach for the sky
With no fear at all
Trusting your life is starting over

Candy Channel's album cover featured in Ryan's Gig Guide

Sherrie: This was in my early minimalist phase chordally. Mostly there's only three, and they are the same in the verse as in the chorus. The intention was to write a song which anyone could play by strumming the chords on a guitar. However it's not that easy to sing well - there's a full two octaves and the high notes need to be very powerful - I had to practise lots before it became easy! It's probably my best vocal on the album.

Duke: The lyric's about a little trick that you can apply to many situations in life. For instance, taking a deep breath and relaxing before squeezing the trigger on the best shot you're ever going to make. This was the first song that we wrote for Candy Channel and it was a new beginning for us as a guitar band. It's not very surprising that there's an element of new beginnings in the words. We wanted to break some new ground, forget some rules and take a few risks. All I'm really trying to say is if you're trying too hard and things go wrong, it really hurts. The bonus for me on this track is John's crashing guitar chords and his beautifully phrased solo. I also think it's Sherrie's best vocal performance on the album with Making It Happen a close second. I'm disappointed that some derbrains think this song is about being down - it's really full of optimism.
