You are the one
Used to glint in the sun like a razor
Right from the start
Tore a hole in my heart with your lies
But I've had enough of your scam
And I've found out who I am
The Sweet Avenger
She's a leveller
You'll regret her
The Sweet Avenger
I was the last one to know
Of the lengths you would go to deceive me
If it's my fate
That I reciprocate that's just fine
Nothing could be sweeter than revenge
And I will defeat ya in the end
The Sweet Avenger
She's a leveller
You'll regret her
The Sweet Avenger
You'll find your favourite shoes
With your very best suits in the
same place
As your hi-fi and computer and guitars
At the bottom of the lake in your car
The Sweet Avenger
She's a leveller
You'll regret her
The Sweet Avenger
Na na nana na na nana
na na nana na na nana nana na na

Sherrie: Ah! The Sweet Avenger! I wanted to write
something dramatic with balls that would be a bit different from the rest
of the album. Someone played me Tom Jones' Delilah which I thought was
really naff and a video of Alex Harvey's spoof version and I knew that was
the direction to go! The chorus is the way it is because Duke played a
bummer when we were working on it and I made him keep it and changed the
guitar part to fit it, cos it added so much tension! I'm especially proud
of how neatly the middle section falls down into the last verse. Doing
something tongue in cheek like this gave everyone a bit of freedom - John
could really wig out on lead, Duke could play some progressive, and I
could really ham it up on the vocal. It's a great fun track to perform and
it always gets a great response from the crowd.
Duke: When I heard Sherrie's guitar work and vocal line
for this I just knew this was going to be a song about sweet revenge so
the title was easy! Because
it's a bit of a send-up musically it was easy
to slip into cheesy rock-opera style with the words. It's really a script
for Sherrie to over-act on so don't blame me - it's what she wanted! My
favourite bit is the childish taunt - na na nana na na, and I didn't even
write that bit, so there. I got to play John's guitar doubling up the bass
line on this, which was a real treat cos he has a wicked customised strat.
We are not worthy...
